Wrangaton Golf Club

The club wishes to offer congratulations to all of those that competed at home last Thursday against Teign Valley in the Vets friendly match.

Most managed to finish before the rain became too heavy. Yet again th club had a storming win, beating the visitors 5-1, and that one was just lost on the 18th. This makes it three matches without a loss, with two near-whitewashes of the opposition.

The next match is at Dinnaton, the Dave Trevar­then Trophy, on Wednesday, April 20, at 10am with the after-match soiree in the Hunting Lodge. Run­ners and riders already circulated. The vets four ball better ball Chester Cup results saw Barry Gold­en and Roger Batter­shill come out on top with 46 points.

In second were Alan Knight and Neil Too­good with 43 points and in third Terry Tyler and Steve Webber with 42 points.

The men’s Dartmoor League team played their second match of the year at home against Credtion but they could not carry on with their good form, losing 3-2.

On Saturday 18 teams took part in the team event, played in the format of one score to count on the first six holes, two scores to count on the middle six holes and all three scores to count on the final six holes.

Bill Purser, Peter Swift and Robin Davies scored 88 points, followed by Keith Sexton, Peter Bry­ant and Roger Fowler in second place with 83 points.

Third went to Dean Dick­er­son, John Lemin and I Black, fourth P Ed­wards, D Hodge and M Squires, with Dan Newman, Rich Antho­ny and Kelvin Trent finishing fifth.

Thirty-one players took part in captain’s social night last week, with the event being a three clubs and a putter game.

Three players tied with 20 points, meaning Phil Edwards won on countback from Jamie Jordan in second, with Joe Jordan finishing third.

Peter Newman came fourth with 19 ahead of Ian Gibson in fifth.

All at the club were pleased to see so many ladies taking part; Ruth Bickle won with 18 points, beating Jane Cook on countback. Ruth also had a two on the 17th hole. Mike Tremain would like to thank everyone for their support.

Last week was the first men’s Wednesday stableford roll up of the year.

The conditions were very difficult thanks to high winds, with Gra­ham Waites winning with 34 points, follwed by Les Lowman with 33.

The weather was, however, excellent for the coffee morning at Wrangaton held by the ladies on Wednesday, April 13. Ladies from several clubs took part and the course was playing well, despite the difficult weather conditions of previous weeks.

The monies raised will be used to support the teams both friendly and competitive when taking part in competitions.

As well as playing the course, the visitors were able to take part in an indoor putting competion and to buy home made goodies provided by the Wrangaton ladies.

The team fielded for the Sheila Creasey match play competition was successful in the first game of the competition, winning 4-3 against Dainton.
