The Dartmoor League team captain Ian Black and his players travelled to Teign Valley Golf Club, knowing that winning the match 3-2 would be enough to secure the league title.
In a closely fought contest, captain Ian and his team managed to win the fixture by that exact score, meaning they won the 2015 winter league. This is great for the club and all the players deserve congratulation.
The men’s pairs contest on September 26, the annual men’s competition, took place on Saturday. The weather was great and the sun was shining on the golf course all day.
Organisers received many positive comments about the condition of the course. The course was playing its full length as the ground is getting softer. The format of the day was both scores to count stableford.
Gary Clasby and partner Jim Bond came out on top with 70 points. There was a three-way tie for second place, with all three pairs scoring 68 points.
Stewart Ewens and Olli Nute pipped second place on countback (36 points) from Tim Nand-Lal and Richard Bailey (35 points) and then Tommy Ryder and Chris Harper (33 points).
There were only four twos all day, all meaning each two was worth £20.21!
The Wednesday roll-up on September 23 was a close one, with three players scoring 36 points. The competition was won on countback by Mark Hancock, who scored 36 points and had the best back nine of the three tied players. Mark has recently been custom fitted with a set of Nike irons and a Nike driver; it’s great to see they are working for him. Tim Saunders finished second on countback with Adrian Freeman third.
The club wishes to congratulate lady members Wendy Roberts and Val Mulcrone, who won the Devon county lady vets meeting at Yelverton Golf Club with a fantastic score of 39 points.
Wrangaton were well represented with a total of six pairs taking part in the day.
The ladies’ September medal and LGU brooch contest on September 23 saw Marion Seward take victory with net 76, followed by runner-up Jane Cooke just one behind with net 77.
The Wrangaton ladies made it to the Devon Ladies League finals day at Woodbury Park, where they beat Saunton ladies 6-1 in the semi-final to book a date with a strong Dainton Park team.
The ladies put up a good fight in the final but lost 4-2. Reaching the final was a great achievement for the ladies’ section, well done from everyone at the club.
