Wills Week organised by Citizens Advice, a charity created to help people resolve their problems, has raised around £2,000 in an incredible week of fundraising.

The three practices involved, SW Law in Ivybridge, Start Point Law in Kingsbridge and Wollen Michelmore Solicitors in Dartmouth gave their time and expertise completely free of charge.

Each firm allocated slots throughout the week for members of the public to make appointments in exchange for donations to Citizens Advice.

The money raised will help the charity in their quest to provide free, confidential, independent and impartial advice to everyone and inform them about their rights and responsibilities.

A Trustee of Citizens Advice, Chris Hall said: “We are delighted with how much was raised in donations by these three local practices. They are all very busy and somehow managed to find time to raise funds for us so we can continue to train our volunteers and keep our offices open.

“We are also happy that more people are realising the importance of leaving an up to date Will. Hopefully Citizens Advice Wills Week will become a regular event in the South Hams calendar.”

The Manager at Citizens Advice, Janie Moor said: “We have recently reviewed a grant from the Big Lottery Fund and combined with the amazing Wills Week donations, will enable us to recruit and train more local people as volunteers.

“We currently have 45 trained volunteers and we want to increase the number to 55 over the next year to handle the rise in demand for our services.

“If anyone reading this would like to join us we would love to hear from them.”

All Citizens Advice volunteers receive full training and are supported and supervised as they give advice. No specific qualifications are needed; just an ability to be open-minded, good at listening, enjoy helping people and have basic computer skills.
