IVYBRIDGE will commemorate the 70th anniversary of VE Day this year with a weekend full of celebration and services.

Victory in Europe Day was the public holiday celebrated on May 8, 1945, to mark the formal acceptance of Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender of its armed forces to mark the end of the second world war in Europe.

On Friday, May 8, this year there will be service of remembrance at the town's war memorial from 11am.

Later that day The Sportsmans Inn, in Exeter Road, will hold a celebratory evening.

The event will include a hog roast and local entertainers providing music from the era.

During the course of the night there will also be entertainment from the Plymouth Pipe Band as well as the raffle and auction.

On Saturday, May 9, there will be the official judging of the traders' window dressing competition in Ivybridge.

A service of thanksgiving will then be held at St John's Church on Sunday, May 10, from 3pm.
