FANS of classic and vintage vehicles are in for a treat this Sunday when Devon Vintage Car Club takes over the car park at Endsleigh.
The club will be holding its annual ‘Drive It Day’ classic car display on Sunday, April 24, from 10.30am to 1pm.
Owners of classic, vintage and any interesting cars are invited to take part in the display.
The event is open to all, although the club will be making a collection for its chosen charity as well as Marie Curie, the beneficiary selected by the garden centre.
At around 1pm, DVCC members will start on their traditional St George’s Day run and treasure hunt, a two hour drive through beautiful Devon countryside and across the moor ending with a well deserved cream tea. The run is unfortunately only available to DVCC members due to public liability insurance requirements.
Drive it Day was launched several years ago to raise awareness of Britain’s motoring heritage, by making as many ‘old vehicles’ as possible visible to the public on the Sunday nearest St George’s Day. It commemorates the running, in 1900, of the ’1,000 Mile Trial’ when 64 cars started from London on a test of reliability and roadworthiness.
Last year saw a record turnout of enthusiasts on the roads for the event, which is organised by the Federation of British Historic Vehicles Clubs.
