I am concerned for my small, independent business since the rollout of the badger cull in the South Hams.

I live in East Allington and work at the gallery I run with two other local artists in Avon Mill Garden Centre. This cull is dividing families and friends; worrying dog walkers and people visiting the area; it is affecting tourism and small businesses such as mine, which rely heavily on the tourist industry. It has already proven to be a threat to public safety and has a negative economic impact on the region by deterring tourism. It is not the answer and is just a green light for some who enjoy hunting and killing.

On Sunday I spent two hours picking up plastic, glass, fishing wire with hooks, rubber and metal from the beautiful Blackpool Sands beach, which is surrounded by fields in which badgers are being needlessly and ignorantly killed. I care greatly about the local area, as well as the wildlife, and this includes badgers. I left a message in the shingle saying ‘Stop the cull’.
