The Erme primary school in Ivybridge have had a busy few weeks of activities, including the opportunity of working on an exciting project with Plymouth Argyle Football Club.

The project, called Premier League Reading Stars, focuses on encouraging and motivating children to read.

The Year 3 pupils have been working together in small groups to share their love of reading with the reward of a game afterwards.

One pupil at the school, Malakai, said: “We get to take penalties if we have read lots and keep scores.”

Another pupil who has been enjoying the experience, Luke, said: “It’s really fun because we get to play lots of sports games and earn points.”

As well as working with Plymouth Argyle Football Club, pupils at the Erme were also kept busy competing at Ivybridge Rugby Club against eight schools for a chance to win a trophy.

The team, made up of children from Year 3 and 4, demonstrated excellent team work throughout with several wins, and finished in an impressive fourth place overall.

To conclude their busy weeks of activities, the Erme held a Mighty Quiz in aid of raising money for Dementia UK.

The children had to tackle a number of challenges throughout the day, including team challenges such as building the tallest tower possible using spaghetti and marshmallows, and fish racing with paper fish without the use of their hands.

Other challenges included identifying ten famous places from pictures, and answering questions on music and fun facts.
