PUPILS at an Ivybridge primary school were handed a chance to decide how to raise money for Children in Need by themselves this year.
Woodlands Park Primary’s school council – made up of pupils who have been elected by their fellows - canvassed the views of pupils as to how to raise as much as possible.
With the theme ‘champions of change’ in mind, the most popular idea was a wacky hair mufti day, and pupils and staff came in last Friday with a wide range of wacky, weird and wonderful coiffures.
They were joined on the day by special guest Pudsey the bear, and also enjoyed a visit from BBC Spotlight. Everyone sang happy birthday to celebrate Pudsey’s 30th birthday, and donations were made to have a photo taken with the famous character.
Many youngsters also donated their own toys for an after school toy sale.
The School Council recognised the more serious side of the day, presenting an assembly described as ‘well-researched and informative’ to remind everyone why their efforts were so important.
Thanks to the pupils and staff a fantastic amount was raised for the appeal.
