CHILDREN at Stowford School did their best to ensure this Christmas was one to remember with three spectacular shows.
Foundation and Nursery classes worked together to produce My Very First Nativity, which told the Christmas story through rhyme and song. With no older children to help out, they rose to the occasion, delivering a fabulous performance that was enjoyed by all.
The Key Stage 1 production Children Around the World looked at the different ways Christmas is celebrated in countries from China and Australia to Ireland and Poland. Each country had its own special song and dance and each brought a unique gift to the nativity tableaux.
The older children held a more traditional carol concert for parents and friends at Ivybridge’s Methodist Church. They retold the Christmas story through readings from the Bible and a mixture of modern and traditional carols.
Every class performed a carol that they had chosen and rehearsed and there were also some beautiful solo performances.
Deputy head Sue Williams said: ‘This is the first Christmas we have attempted to produce three separate shows and, from our very youngest Nursery children to our oldest Year 6 pupils, the children made us all so very proud.
‘They showcased the strength and depth of talent across our school in the performing arts and audiences have been moved from laughter to tears by their amazing performances. The staff have worked incredibly hard to ensure that all the children were ready and that they gave the best performance they possibly could.
‘We know, from feedback from parents, that they have achieved this and, when a parent says ‘that was amazing; that has made my Christmas’, we know we’ve got it right.’
