A BREAKFAST-themed Fairtrade Fortnight in Ivybridge has been hailed a success by organisers.
The two weeks saw multiple events around the town, mostly involving the enjoyment of Fairtrade breakfast produce.
The national theme for 2016 was ’Stand Up for Farmers, Sit Down for Breakfast’, and the fortnight aimed to get people thinking about where their breakfast comes from and the farmers who produce it, both at home and abroad.
Ivybridge Fairtrade Fortnight events were organised by the town’s Fairtrade supporters group, which last year succeeded in getting Ivybridge’s Fairtrade Town status renewed.
Lorna Howell from the group said: ’Fairtrade Fortnight 2016 in Ivybridge has been a success, reaching many new people in the town. The Fairtrade and local breakfast at the Watermark on the Wednesday was delicious, and the Girl Guides also served Fairtrade refreshments at a concert at the community college that evening.
’The events on Saturday in Glanvilles Mill and at the Watermark went well too. Many thanks to Gribbles for donating their excellent drycure bacon, and to the Co-op for the baps.
’Two more big breakfasts followed, one at the Wesley Cafe, Ivybridge Methodist Church and another at St John’s Church, Blachford Road.
’Thanks to Ian Wintersgill, the town crier, for advertising all these events with great style.’
