Ivybridge and South Brent are the stars of the latest Bergerac series

Ivybridge and South Brent have been getting a taste of television glamour this week as filming takes place for the third series of the revived Bergerac.

Residents have reported seeing cameras and production crews at a number of locations across the South Hams, including Ivybridge Library, Ivybridge Tesco, the Watermark and outside South Brent Health Centre.

There have also been reports of filming in Strete, while other scenes for the series have been shot around Torquay and Plymouth.

The drama is principally set in Jersey, where Damien Molony plays detective Jim Bergerac in the reimagined version of the much-loved BBC series.

The original Bergerac, starring John Nettles in the title role, ran from 1981 to 1991 and became one of the BBC's most popular dramas.

The new series was originally shown on U and U&DRAMA before moving to BBC Two.

The appearance of the production in Ivybridge and South Brent has provided a welcome surprise for residents, with sightings of the cast, crew and filming equipment generating interest on local social media.

And while viewers may have to wait to see exactly how the South Hams locations feature in the finished drama, the latest filming has provided a reminder that Devon continues to be an increasingly popular location for major television productions.
