RAINBOW units in Ivybridge are appealing for adult helpers who can give up just one evening a week to make a real difference to local girls.

Rainbows are the youngest age group in Girlguiding, from five to seven. Girls get the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of exciting activities and experiences, and learn new skills.

The three Ivybridge units take girls from all the local schools, so there is a chance to make new friends as well. The groups meet for an hour on either Tuesday, Thursday or Friday evenings, and adult helper duties include playing games with the Rainbows, and helping them with various crafts and activities.

One of the leaders Sue Fricker said: ’It’s a really rewarding experience and it’s only one evening a week so isn’t too time consuming. It would be possible to either become a trained leader in Girlguiding or just be a helper for the unit.

’Any volunteer would need to be over 18 years old and will need to undergo a DBS check but Girlguiding will arrange this. Anyone who wanted to help would be very welcome to get in touch.’

All the Rainbow units currently have vacancies. To register your daughter, go to the Girlguiding national website – www.girlguiding.org.uk – and click on About Us.
