Arthur Johnson, of Saffron Park, Kingsbridge, writes: On Thursday, May 7, our politicians will be hoping that we will be voting for them. I am not a member of any political party and I will not ask readers to vote for any particular party; instead I am asking readers not to vote for our current crop of politicians from the main parties. In the past our politicians, no matter which party they were from, had an understanding of history, economics and, yes, even politics. The present intake of politicians are careerist lightweights in comparison by any measure – they have jettisoned conviction politics for sound bites. The only time they show any sign of passion is when the expenses trough is pushed under their snouts. These are the reasons. The Conservatives were led by a great lady who enacted policies that led to the free and prosperous society we all now live in and enjoy. The present leader, David Cameron, will for most people be remembered for hugging hoodies, stating that the USA helped Britain win the Battle of Britain in 1940 – when actually it did not get involved until attacked at Pearl Harbour on December 7, 1941 – and, best of all, allowing men to marry each other. The Labour Party had statesmen such as Aneurin Bevan, who helped create the NHS, and despite most people not agreeing with them, people such as Tony Benn and Michael Foot, who argued with passion and vision. The present Labour leader Ed Miliband is just a poorer imitation of that arch spinmeister Tony Blair. Miliband, like Cameron, has no depth to him. He is like Blair, who says some leftish sound bites to rally his own supporters and grab the headlines. Cameron will always trump Miliband when it comes to spinning due to Cameron's only previous job in PR at Carlton Communications. Nick Clegg, funnily enough, is an openly proud conviction politician who is devoted to his beloved country – the European Union. But he let down many of his supporters and voters by getting elected by opposing student tuition fees, but when elected promptly joining a government that supported student tuition fees. This betrayal caused a massive shock to Lib Dem voters, including thousands of students who voted Lib Dem, some of whom have told me they will never vote for them again. And here is the best reason of all not to vote for the 'LibLabCon Party' – they are all Europhiles, totally committed to that hugely expensive bureaucratic war machine, the EU. It is the EU's lust for expansion and active subversion of the democratically elected government of Ukraine over a decade, spending quite literally billions of pounds, that has led to the present horrific bloodshed there, killing and maiming thousands of mostly innocent civilians and making more than a million homeless. It is hugely ironic that the EU's unelected foreign minister Cathy Ashton turned up in person to cheer on the anti-government Maidan movement, led by far right groups including Right Sector and Svoboda, against the anti-EU government of Ukraine. Why ironic? Because Cathy Ashton was once a leading member of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, yet her's and the EU's actions are now resulting in the real threat of global nuclear war. Cities and towns will be burnt to a cinder, and outside ground zero the people in the countryside will be dying from deadly levels of radiation. The few survivors in their plush nuclear bunkers will be the people who started Armageddon, and the same people who want you to vote for them on May 7. On February 25 defence minister Michael Fallon announced 70 British army advisers will be sent to Ukraine, not as peacekeepers, but as war facilitators for the Ukrainian army. David Cameron said on July 1, 2013: 'Our vision of the EU is that it should be a large trading and cooperating organisation that effectively stretches, as it were, from the Atlantic to the Urals.' The Urals are far to the East of Moscow. Either Cameron is as much of a dunce regarding geography as he is with history, or he was telling the truth, in which case we all have no future. I ask readers to not vote for these dense, morally bankrupt financial spivs and war-mongers, so that you and your children have a future. The choice in the end will be yours.
