A SERVICE supporting people with hearing aids in Ivybridge is secure for the immediate future after a successful appeal for volunteers.

Action on Hearing Loss - formerly the Royal National Institute for Deaf People - runs the Hear to Help service in Ivybridge Library once a month.

The service helps people make the most of their hearing aids by offering advice and practical support like fitting new batteries and tubes.

The charity had warned before Christmas that it was in danger of having to stop the sessions due to a lack of volunteers. Hear to Help performs a crucial role by allowing those with hearing aids supplied by Derriford Hospital to access vital maintenance and valuable guidance from trained volunteers closer to home.

But now, several locals have stepped forward to rescue the service from the brink.

Action on Hearing Loss project coordinator for Plymouth, covering Devon and Cornwall Jason Sculthorpe said: ’Thanks to the public for coming forward, we now have enough volunteers to continue the service.’
