The owner of a Kingsbridge removal firm is mounting an operation deliver aid to Ukraine.

Andrew Dyas of Dyas and Sons Removals said he knew something had to be done: “I was on holiday in Germany when he saw the invasion by Russian forces unfold. I knew then that I had to do something to help.”

That something was to start Kingsbridge and Salcombe Ukraine Aid and very quickly he got together a group of people from all around the South Hams and even as far away as Plymouth and Torquay to collect money but also a wide range of things including blankets, sleeping bags, sanitary items, baby products and snack foods.

The items are being sorted and stored in different sections.

Andrew also set top a Crowdfunder page with a target of £5000.

On March 10 the total had reached £4575.

The first trip will set off on Monday 14 travelling first down to Dover, across to Calais then making its way to Poland close to the Ukraine border at Zamosc. Andrew hopes that they will reach the destination on Wednesday.

Andrew added: “The plan is then to stay for a few days to help but then we are planning to keep on going and run follow-up trips.”
