The Kingsbridge and District branch of the Royal British Legion will no longer be holding its wreath-laying services due to Monday’s new Covid law.
The first of the two services was due to take place on Tuesday, September 15 at 11am at the town’s war memorial. However, due to the new Government restrictions which come into effect on Monday, large gatherings will now be unlawful.
The service on Tuesday would have marked the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain with the service which was to take place on Saturday, September 19, marking the 76th anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem.
Carole Castle, Secretary for Kingsbridge and District Royal British Legion said: "We are deeply saddened that we are no longer able to pay our respects at these two memorial services, but with rules coming into place on Monday the Legion can not risk encouraging large gatherings."
