A SUPPORTER of Ivybridge charity Hannahs has handed over the proceeds of a sponsored coast to coast walk.
Mike Kearney visited the young adults in Hannahwood at Hannahs Ivybridge last week to present them with a cheque for nearly £600.
Mike recently completed a four day walk from Ivybridge to Lynmouth along the Two Moors Way.
Mike took on the walk to raise funds to buy much needed communication equipment for Hannahwood. He decided to start his walk in Ivybridge where Hannahs is based and where he recently spent a year working as a support worker.
Mike said: ’The story starts with my niece Darcie, who suffered an acquired brain injury as the result of a road traffic incident.
’I knew she used the specialist facilities at Ivybridge, the hydro pool and the sensory equipment mainly, and saw how much benefit she got out of it. So helping Darcie attend these sessions coupled with me having the opportunity to take a break from my career in the civil service led me to becoming a support worker at Hannahs Ivybridge for a while.
’Communication is the key and specialist training and kit is required, plus dedicated staff need training. So I hope by taking on this challenge I can highlight the work of the trust and raise funds for the specialist equipment used at Hannahs Ivybridge.’
