THE redevelopment of Ivybridge's iconic Stowford Mill site has made its first steps.
Developer Burrington Estates has sent two applications to South Hams planners to turn the landmark site into a mixture of housing, restaurants, retail and leisure opportunities, as well as public spaces.
The plans will soon be made available on the planning section of the South Hams Council website and are set to be discussed at the meeting of Ivybridge Town Council on Monday, June 22.
The 'mixed-use' application sent to South Hams Council includes the erection of 36 new homes and 32 'later living' one- and two-bed apartments, the conversion of existing buildings to create commercial floorspace, the conversion of an existing farm to create two homes and 27 one- and two-bed apartments, as well as areas for community use, car parking and landscaping.
Another application has also been sent to the district council for listed building consent for the 'regeneration'.
Burrington Estates acquired the landmark site after it ceased production as an active paper mill in 2013.
Members of the public have until Friday, July 10, to submit comments on the application to South Hams Council, although comments will still be accepted after the closing date.
