THE traffic lights in Modbury, currently causing delays to commuters, will remain in place until January.
The roadworks are associated with Bloor Homes’ controversial development of 92 new homes at Palm Cross Green.
A spokesman for Bloor Homes South West said: ‘Temporary traffic lights have been installed on the A379 outside our Palm Cross development.
‘This was to allow contractors to install a foul water drainage system, and the lights will remain in place until work to widen the carriageway is completed.
‘We anticipate that the traffic lights will remain in place until January. However, we will endeavour to complete the work as soon as possible.’
The spokesman continued: ‘Although we appreciate there will be some inconvenience for motorists, the work to widen the carriageway will improve traffic flow on this section of road in the long-term. Every effort is being made to minimise the inconvenience to motorists.
‘During the day, the traffic lights can be operated manually in order to manage traffic flow more efficiently, and the lights are constantly monitored to ensure they are working correctly.’
