D MILNER, of Ringmore Drive, Bigbury-on-Sea, writes: Those of us who regularly use the 'slip' at Bigbury Village leading to the permitted footpath had a shock last week. Apparently an elderly gentleman had decided to do a bit of pruning. Perhaps if he has time on his hands and feels like a bit of part-time pruning and path clearing, he could apply to the council – the standard of his work was on a par with its efforts. I am sure it was done with the best of intentions, but it would have been more considerate if he had cleared up the debris after he had hacked it all down. The discarded greenery, including nettles, thorns, blackthorn and branches of ivy, made hazardous walking for dogs, let alone ramblers and other visitors. This greenery, especially the nettles, was of course a valuable habitat for butterflies and many other insects.
