Homes plan in need of re-think
JUDGEMENT has been deferred on a controversial housing development in Ivybridge after councillors voiced ‘huge concern’ over several aspects of the scheme.
Persimmon Homes plans to build 77 houses on two fields between Cornwood Road, Woodland Road and Stibb Lane on the western edge of Ivybridge.
The site is outside Ivybridge’s development boundary, and has not been allocated for housing by local planning authority South Hams Council.
Members of the council’s Development Management Committee met on Wednesday morning to consider the plans, with residents who oppose the scheme watching on. Planners dealing with the application have received more than 100 letters of objection from locals.
Committee member Cllr Julian Brazil had sparked outrage from residents when, at a site meeting last week, he reportedly told locals that if they continued to interrupt the planning officer, the committee would ‘just approve the application’.
