In the aftermath of Storm Ciara, the South Hams is once again about to be 'battered' by another named storm.
The new named storm dubbed ’Dennis the Menace’ will bring heavy spells of rain at times over the weekend to the South Hams, with some flooding and possible disruption to travel.
Amber rain warnings will be in effect from 3pm on Saturday till 3pm on Sunday this will be accompanied by a yellow warning for wind which will be in effect from 10am on Saturday till midnight on Sunday.
What to expect from the amber rain warning:
Homes and businesses are likely to be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.
Fast flowing or deep floodwater is likely, causing danger to life
Delays and some cancellations to train and bus services are likely
Spray and flooding probably leading to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
A good chance some communities cut off by flooded roads
Power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses likely
What to expect from the yellow wind warning:
Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
Some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities are likely affected by spray and/or large waves
