A South Hams charity is holding a fundraiser as part of a national drive to mark the anniversary of the murder of MP Jo Cox.

The Kambeng Trust from South Brent works to support a village in the Gambia, West Africa.

This Saturday, June 17 the charity is holding A Right Old Song and Dance as part of The Great Get Together. Over the weekend of June 16 to 18, Jo Cox’ husband Brendan is asking people to come together to celebrate all the good things which unite the UK as a nation, by holding an event.

The event begins at 7.30pm in South Brent Village Hall and tickets are available on the door or in advance from Artworks, Station Road.

The trust is promising a great evening, featuring music from Sing Devon Community Choirs and The Hothouse Band playing energetic afro/latin/soul music. There will also be a chance to sing along with a song specially written for the occasion using the late MP’s words.

As well as music and dancing there will be a bar, puddings and a raffle.

Encouraging communities to get involved, Brendan Cox said: “Jo loved a party and I hope this will be a national moment of joy.” His hope is that people would come together to show their support for his wife’s values, summed up by her words: “We are far more united and have far more in common that that which divides us.”
