IVYBRIDGE adventurer Richard Lander Stow has set himself a mountainous charity challenge in memory of his father Andrew, who died from a brain tumour earlier this year.

Richard plans to ascend and descend Western Beacon near Ivybridge until he has achieved the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest’s nearly 9,000 metres.

The IT consultant will be raising money for St Luke’s Hospice, which cared for his father in his final days.

He estimates the 77 or so miles will take at least 20 or 30 hours, and he plans to start at 6am on January 2. Richard will walk up and run down the hill, beginning at Davey’s Cross on Exeter Road.
