IVYBRIDGE police are reminding residents to remain vigilant after one eagle eyed member of the public potentially stopped a theft.

Last week police received a call after a Ford Transit van was spotted in suspicious circumstances at an isolated location near Holbeton.

The van was later located abandoned following a single vehicle collision.

A spokesman from Ivybridge police said: 'One occupant has been identified and an investigation is ongoing into the vehicle's movements.

'We believe at this time that the occupants were from the Plymouth area.

'This is a timely reminder of the need for local residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious sightings, particularly of commercial vehicles at night.

'We have recently experienced a number of overnight thefts from isolated buildings and barns.
