Gary Edgecombe, of Camperdown Road, Salcombe, writes:
I would be the first to admit that I am not exactly the sharpest chisel in the box, and my editor is constantly reminding me that my joints creak louder than
our air-conditioning. However, there is nothing wrong with my memory.
I seem to recall writing a letter of objection about the Gould Road development in Salcombe some considerable time ago.
Having read the objections, none of which I can find fault with, I think South Hams Council seems deaf, dumb and blind to the genuine concerns of the locals in Salcombe.
I agree with every comment made about Freemantle’s proposal for Gould Road.
Freemantle have completely disregarded the opinions of
the local people in Salcombe, not least of which are those
of Martin, Jill and Sophie Pridham, people who are
living directly adjacent to this ridiculous proposal, and a family I happen to hold in particularly high regard.
Their home will be effectively ruined if this proposal is allowed to go ahead.
It has been made abundantly clear by everyone with a right to an opinion that the ground in question should only be employed for industrial or retail use. The most naive of us accept that the space should be employed by someone in Salcombe’s marine industry, and yet this is something that seems to escape our local council.
I am not a lawyer, but speaking as nothing more than a local, and someone who writes for a living, I have to say that something is very wrong here.
I suggest that South Hams Council reviews this matter with a degree of urgency.
