IVYBRIDGE 2nd XI put pressure on Torquay & Kingskerswell for the second promotion place in the D Division West with a 92-run win over relegation worriers Barton 2nd XI.

No one is going to stop long-time leaders Chagford (258pts) from winning the division now. But any of T&K (212), Plymstock (210), Ivybridge (201), and maybe Yelverton (199), could place second.

As Ivybridge finish with Plymstock (H), Yelverton (H) and Ipplepen (A), they have two chances to knock the opposition out of the running. None of the other contenders play each other.

Jake Dunn (84) and Sam Northmore (52) were Ivybridge 2nd XI’s primary run makers in a hefty total of 292 for nine at Barton. Dylan Squire thwacked 37 not out at the end.

Barton Seamer Chris Stubbs worked hard for his four-for-69 return.

Barton needed an anchorman innings or two sizeable partnerships to threaten Ivybridge’s total. A 48-run stand for the second wicket, and Tom Porter’s top score of 45, was unlikely to be enough.

Harry Shelton and Arun Radhakrishnan both made 32 and Stubbs 26 before Barton were all out for 200. Jack Worth (4-43) had a huge say in removing Barton’s top six.

Meanwhile, Ivybridge 1st XI gave Kilmington a run for their money before resigning themselves to a two-wicket defeat.

Mickey Copeland top scored for the Bridge with 67 in a team total of 226 for nine. Kilmington crept over the line with eight wickets down and four balls to go.

“We had a couple decisions not go our way and if they had I'm pretty sure the result would have been different,” was Adam Huxtable view as Ivybridge captain.

The result was more significant for Kilmington than Ivybridge as it just about staved off any lingering relegation worries. Ivybridge should finish mid-table.

Harvey Johnson (22) and. Abraham Kopparambil (20) gave Ivybridge a start, which was expanded by Dinesh Raheja (31) and Copeland putting on 65 for the fourth wicket.

Copeland hung around to add a further 53 for the sixth wicket with Arthur Johnson, who was the last man out for 38.

Luke Meek (4-44) took wickets at either end of the innings for Kilmington. Josh Cann (2-34) and Matt Reed (2-33) chipped in.

Kilmington’s run hunt was a collaborative effort that contained just one half-century score: Cann’s of 50.

Matt Pile (45) and Meek (31) helped Cann take the tally to 178 for seven.

Oli Reed (22) and Matt Reed (20no) took Kilmington most of the rest of the way.

There were two wickets each for Ivybridge bowlers Johnson (2-51), Huxtable (2-44) and Harry Solomon (2-21).

Elsewhere, Cornwood 2nd XI ended a four-game wait for a win in the C Division West when they defeated Chudleigh by 64 runs.

Matt Butterworth jogged the first-team management’s memory with a top score of 92 in the Wood’s total of 260 for six. He shared stands of 78 with Harry Woolway (41) and 98 with Aaron Richards (34).

Mark Russell (2.00) and Will Heather (3.11) were the cheapest of Chudleigh’s nine-over bowlers. James Bowden took three wickets – including Butterworth’s – late in proceedings.

Openers Russell (79no) and Rajkmar Neeiam (42) gave Chudleigh an 82-run start. No one else got to 20 as Eoin Hewitt (4-34) and Adam Goodliffe (3-24) shot them out for 196.
