April proved to be a busy and successful month for South Brent Judo Club's judoka.

Ewan Baker (U55kg) competed in the Edinburgh International Sportif, winning four of his five fights to win a well-deserved bronze medal.

A week later 10 SBJC judoka made the long journey to Belgium to compete in the Sovereign Judo Cup and represent the Western area.

On Saturday Pierre Michelin (U55kg) from Ivybridge Community College was first on the mat in the U13s. He fought well and won a bronze.

On it Sunday was the turn of the under 15s and under 18s to get a atse of the action.

With more than 875 competitors from across Europe, it was always going to be a tough day.

All of the club's fighters gave a good account of themselves, but only the prolific Ewan made it on to the podium to collect a hard-earned bronze medal.

The Sovereign Cup was an exciting opportunity for the young judoka and for many their first international competition.
