It was the first round of the Farley Trophy, which has a different format to normal league matches.
There are five disciplines with a two wood and four wood singles, a pair, a triple and a four to be played. The first to complete three rink wins are winners.
Larry Ireland played the four wood singles and romped to a 21-11 win. In the other singles match it was a much tighter affair for the Ivies' Dave Taylor, with the lead changing after almost every end. His opponent did pull away into a 18-15 lead but he was denied any further shots and Taylor won 21-18.
The pair of Grenville Barnett (skip) and Chris Bufton were always in control and trounced the visitors 25-15. The triple was played by Paul Morgan, Jack Bilby and skip Eric Bennett. It was another rink where the outcome was on a knife edge.
With just one end left to be played the score was 13-13. Again the home side edged it by picking up two on that end.
The four was played by Peter Bray, Rob Woodcock, Paul Binyon and skip Dave Crisp.
They were losing for most of the match, but came good over the last four ends to win 19-14, giving Ivybridge the whitewash by winning all five disciplines.
The Saturday League match was a completely different matter.
Ivybridge, having been promoted to the second division last year, were pitted against Beacon Down, who came down from the first division. This match was played on the Central Park green.
The gulf between the teams became obvious quickly as by the end of eight ends Ivybridge were losing 24-52.
The second session was a moral victory for the visitors as Beacon Down could only manage to gain a further five shots.
Thirty more shots went adrift on the third session of eight ends, with another 10 lost on the last eight. This gave a result of 170-97.
Jack Bilby, Frank Sanders and Larry Ireland with skip Eric Bennett lost 26-43. Two shots worse, losing 26-45, were Peter Bray, Brian Harman, Roland Lugger and skip Dave Crisp.
Tony Plant, Chris Bufton and Dave Fourte skipped by Grenville Barnett were defeated 21-36 and completing the dismal score for the Ivies side Dave Moulder, Fred Hawkes and Paul Binyon with skip Stan Parsons went down 24-47.
