The rugby season may be well and truly over, but that hasn’t stopped newly promoted Ivybridge RFC making the most of the break by combining their popular tag family fun day, with a friendly senior game against a Fijian/Samoan navy side too.
They started the day with the tag family competition, where players, parents and friends from all age groups come together with senior players to simply enjoy playing rugby.
After a couple of really hotly competitive matches, all involved got together for a ‘very different’ type of competition to see who could have the most fun.
With the opposing team turning up, it was time for the competitors to take on more the more ‘traditional roles’ of players and supporters. To a man, they repaired to the Rutt and gave their all.
An entertaining, close and spirited game followed, with Ivy just edging a win in the last quarter.
Ivybridge chairman Jim Burns said: ‘Our annual tag day is all about bringing players across the age ranges together and it is huge testament to the senior players at the club that they turned out to support the fun day, knowing they had a friendly in the afternoon.
‘It was fantastic that so many mini/junior parents and players stayed on to watch the match and they were treated to a magnificent demonstration of high-quality, free-flowing rugby from both sides.’
