South Brent Judo Club held its popular under 14 Red Belt Rumble event on Saturday, June 21.
This was well attended by local clubs including Hoshi, Plymouth Judo Club and Kingsley Judo Club.
More than 40 young judoka stepped onto the mat and competed with great determination. For many this was their first competition and they did themselves and their club's proud.
SBJC newly qualified officials were in action and ably guided their young judoka to an enjoyable experience whether in victory or defeat.
The judoka were placed into pools rather than strict weight categories and the SBJC medallists were William Nolan, Theo Lotto, Kiya Butler, Zoe Butler all won gold.
The silver medallists were Lottie Grundy and Awen Pringle while Sam Owen, Edie Grower and Jamie Shipp all won bronze.
No event runs itself and the club committee and parents all rallied round to lay mats, time keep and make endless teas, coffees and bacon butties in a real team effort.
A special mention to Dawn and Oli Michelin from the Horse and Groom for providing all the bacon and sausages as well cute judo cupcakes.
