A village caring charity held another successful dog show despite some changeable weather.
And South Brent and District Caring also took the opportunity to launch this year’s colourful keepsake blanket raffle, giving locals a chance to win one of the items lovingly knitted by supporters of the charity.
The dog show took place at Palstone Park recreation Ground on a showery Saturday, but still drew a good crowd and raised nearly £400. It was organised by dedicated SBADC supporter Samantha Clayton and her family.
Samantha said: "It was our 3rd show, it started off as a one off and has turned into quite the annual event. While successful it was rather wet!
"It’s always great to see people’s continued enthusiasm and support for such a great cause. The dog show is a couple of hours of fun for all and I think most people went home with a rosette or a prize.
"We managed to raise £377.75. I would like to thank Glyn from Canine Capers for being a wonderful judge and the local businesses, such as The Coop for supplying all the barbecue food, Glazebrook Hotel, The Watermark, The Friary and everyone else who donated prizes for the raffle or sponsored a class.
"Also thank you to all the helpers who braved the rain and sold cakes and served tea."
SBADC’s Mandy Haley said the charity was very grateful to Samantha and her family.
After collecting wool, needles and patterns, supporters of the charity have spent months knitting an amazing blanket, that has now been crocheted together by Sue Astal-Stain from Cosy Corner Crafts in the village. So much hard work has gone in that there will be more than one blanket to give out as prizes when the draw is made at the charity’s Christmas Lunch Club on Monday, December 11 at 2.30pm in the Old School Community Centre.
In the meantime, the blanket will be on display in Cozy Corner Crafts and elsewhere while the charity does its best to sell as many tickets as possible. Last year’s blanket raised £600.
SBADC fundraises constantly to continue providing befriending and other services not offered by stautory agencies in South Brent and surrounding parishes.
