AN Ivybridge shoe shop has put its best foot forward to help breast cancer charity Bosom Buddies UK.
Footnote Ivybridge, in Fore Street, has teamed up with the charity to sell Bosom Buddies UK's trainers.
The charity was founded by Pauline Giles in 2011, a year after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Footnote proprietors Pat White and Rose Clapcott said they were delighted to help after Pauline put out a request for people to sell the Charities trainers.
Pat said: 'We were thrilled to have Pauline visit our shop last Monday to help us promote her charity.
'If you speak to Pauline she will tell you how important it is to check yourself and watch out for the signs and symptoms of breast cancer.
'With so many ladies doing Race for Life, it made sense for us to be supporting Pauline by utilising our outlet to increase sales.'
The charity visits schools to speak with year 10 and 11 girls with information and educational regarding signs and symptoms of breast cancer.
With one in eight women diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, Pauline said knowing how to check yourself may be so valuable one day to these girls.
She said: 'It's like learning to ride a bike. You learn when you're young and may not ride a bike for 20 years. But you instantly know what to do if presented with one.
In this academic year Pauline has seen 5,000 girls on a very small budget, raising money through merchandise and people offering to run events.
It is hoped more money will be raised so that many more girls can be educated.
Bosom Buddies' trainers are available from Footnote Ivybridge or online at http://www.footnote-ivybridge.co.uk">www.footnote-ivybridge.co.uk.
Pat added: 'It is great to think the profit helps a small charity to save lives.'
