YOUNGSTERS from Manor Primary School took a trip to Plymouth to participate in the Winter Ability Games.

Taking place at the city’s Life Centre leisure complex, the event was designed to give children with varying disabilities the opportunity to take part in competitive sport.

The Manor pupils enjoyed activities including laser pistol shooting, archery, tennis, contemporary dance, bouldering and higher rock climbing, and ‘new age kurling’, a variant of the winter sport curling that is not played on ice.

The school said the children were really enthusiastic and tried as many sports as they could. They returned to Ivybridge with medals and certificates to commemorate the experience.

The event was part of the Devon School Games which is supported by Sport England Lottery funding. Aiming to build a long term legacy following the London 2012 Olympics, the programme works to enable every school and child to participate in competitive sport.
