A YOUNGSTER from Cornwood School has sacrificed her golden locks for children less fortunate than herself.

Having decided she wanted her hair cut shorter, Eliza Melvin thought it would be a waste if the offcuts were just thrown away.

So the Year 2 pupil decided to donate it to the Little Princess Trust, which provides real hair wigs to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Eliza spent a long time growing her hair, as the charity stipulates it must be in plaits of at least seven inches. This is because at least four inches is woven into the wig before any is left over.

Mum Jo Melvin said: ’I think the Princess Trust is a wonderful organisation. It should be promoted so that more people know about what they do, then hopefully more people will do similarly to Eliza.

’Eliza has now decided that she wants to grow her hair again and then donate it again…fingers crossed it doesn’t take another 6 years.’
