Creonne Baker, trustee of the Coleridge Bus, writes:
I would like to highlight a continuing problem on our roads. People who have gardens or land with a boundary on a road have the responsibility to ensure that the hedges, trees or vegetation does not encroach onto the road.
There are many areas along the A379 where cars are forced into the middle of the road because of the overhanging vegetation. Farmers keep their hedgerows in check and any landowner also has the responsibility to do the same.
Larger vehicles being forced into the middle of the road often come together, smashing off side mirrors and breaking mirrors on trees etc on the nearside.
This is all avoidable if the necessary maintenance is done. There is a good selection of gardeners, tree surgeons and maintenance people who could do the work if the landowner is not able to.
This problem is worsening year on year in some areas and surely something can be done to keep us all safe on the roads.
