SCARECROWS have returned to the streets of Yealmpton once more as the village gears up for its primary school summer fair.

The weird and wonderful creations have been popping up around the village and surrounding area, as residents get their entries ready for the scarecrow competition held as part of the event.

One of the first to appear was a lifelike model of a policeman in hi-visibility clothing and uniform, standing guard over the A379 at the village’s western end.

The fair itself takes place on Saturday, June 18, from noon to 4pm at Yealmpton Primary School, Stray Park, PL8 2HF.

Organised by the Friends of Yealmpton Village School to raise money to support the primary, it will feature a licensed bar, barbecue, vintage high teas, a bouncy castle, community stalls, a tombola, pony rides, a raffle, live music and more.

The scarecrow competition is a popular element of the fair, with entries brought along for judging on the day, having been displayed in public. First prize for the best is £50.
