SOUTH Hams hockey player Giselle Ansley won a gold medal at the Rio Olympics.

The 24-year-old, who grew up in Kingsbridge and played hockey for Ivybridge and Dartmouth, was part of the Team GB ladies hockey team which beat the Netherlands on Friday night.

Team GB took the lead in the first quarter but were pegged back as Netherlands took a 2-1 advantage in the second quarter. Not to be outdone, Team GB almost immediately hit back to level the match.

After half-time Netherlands were dominating possession and went 3-2 in front inside the third quarter.

But in the fourth quarter, gritty Team GB again battled back again to equalise and send the match into a tense penalty shoot-out, which Team GB won 2-0.
