A PROMISING young civil engineering apprentice from Ivybridge has been awarded a scholarship by The Institution of Civil Engineers South West.
William Beaumont was given a Queen’s Jubilee Scholarship Trust – QUEST – technician scholarship.
The award provides financial support for engineering students in further or higher education, who are also obtaining technical and practical engineering experience with employers.
William is a civil engineer design apprentice at Jacobs Engineering, as well as a part-time student at City College Plymouth.
ICE said the standard of entries for this year’s QUEST scholarships was extremely high, with application from all over the South West. William excelled in his interview and displayed a knowledge of the institution, and a keenness to promote civil engineering to others.
Reacting to receiving the scholarship, William said: ‘I am very happy and honoured to receive this award from ICE. It feels rather special to be recognised by a professional body for your potential in civil engineering, and I hope to use this award to springboard my career and hopefully encourage others down a similar path into engineering.’
Miranda Housden from ICE said: ‘QUEST scholarships are awarded to those achieving and striving for the highest standards. All our new scholars have shown a great enthusiasm for engineering and will use the scholarship to aid them in their studies.’
