THOUSANDS of pounds were raised as the Donkey Sanctuary Ivybridge held its most successful summer fair ever.

Over £6,000 was raised which will all go towards the charity's work to provide donkey assisted therapy in the community.

Hundreds of people took advantage of the weather to support the day which included a dog show, dance displays and lots of animals.

Bob Venn, senior centre manager, said: 'It was our best year yet, the amount of people who arrived to show their support was just overwhelming. It was a great day. The weather was on our side, it was just an amazing day, it really was.'

The fair, held at the Donkey Sanctuary Ivybridge, had something for everyone from donkey rides to welly throwing.

Canine Capers supported the event with its dog agility performance before pets and their owners had a chance to take part in the dog show.

There were also displays of dance and martial arts as well as stalls selling arts, crafts and fresh food.

Children had the chance to pet and hold a variety of animals from birds of prey to rabbits and guinea pigs.

Devon Freewheelers supported the event and put on a show in the ring.

Bob added: 'Over £6,000 was raised towards the Donkey Sanctuary Ivybridge.'

The sanctuary provides donkey assisted therapy to 150 local children with additional needs from Plymouth and the surrounding area each week.

It is open seven days a week from 10am to 3pm and holds events and open days throughout the year with all proceeds going towards its work in the community.
