Award-winning South Hams chef, Elly Wentworth, will be representing the South West on TV this week.

Head chef of the iconic The Angel restaurant in Dartmouth, Elly is cooking in the regional heat of the Great British Menu due to be screened on BBC Two at 8pm on Wednesday May 12.

Elly, a MasterChef 2016 runner-up, said she was thrilled to be asked to compete to represent the South West in the popular TV series.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Sir Tim Berners-Lee creation of the World Wide Web, the theme for this year’s cookery show is ‘British Innovation and Invention.’

“The theme pushed me out of my comfort zone, but I really enjoyed matching my food to the brief,” Elly said.

Elly has been cooking since she was 13.

After studying professional cookery at City College Plymouth, she went on to work at the 3 AA rosette Tanners Restaurant in the city then joined three Michelin-starred kitchens - The Elephant under Simon Hulstone, The Bybrook at the Manor House under Richard Davies and Restaurant Hywell Jones at Lucknam Park.  

In the latest Great British Menu series, hosted by Andi Oliver with Rachel Khoo as thee third new judge, Elly will compete against Jude Kareama, Nick Beardshaw and Nat Talents.
