STAFF at a local supermarket have carried out a hair raising stunt for cancer charity Macmillan.

A group from Tesco, Lee Mill staged a day of fundraising for the charity last Thursday, culminating in several staff members having their heads completely shaved.

Penny Parkin, Paul Sylvester, Emily Smith and Andrew Leggett, along with Georgina Bevis who works in the superstore’s Tesco Bank / Travelex kiosk were trimmed by community champion Kim Taylor-Lewis and other staff members.

The group set up a stall and underwent the shave in the shop’s foyer, collecting cash from shoppers throughout the afternoon. They also ran a coffee morning in the staff canteen with homemade cakes for sale and games.

The brave shavers look set to raise a substantial sum for the charity, having got more than £1,000 in sponsorship before the day.

Penny said while some of her colleagues had a personal reason for wanting to raise money for cancer charities, the group as a whole was keen to show support for sufferers, and raise awareness of the disease, Macmillan and its work.
