Robin Griffin, Kingsbridge Town Council and Ring O’Bells firework team, writes:
The Gazette recently listed villages where there would not be a firework evening.
As a member of the Ring O’Bells firework event team for several years, I was almost certain we would be a non-participant because our bonfire field now has houses on it.
However, when the builders, Coyde Construction, heard that our event had raised £8,500 in five years for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust, it came up with a safe solution of fire pits, which it installed and for which it provided wood and protective fencing.
The Horton family allocated us another field for the fireworks, supplied by Jon and Vicky from the pub, and we were in business.
Dozens of folk came with their kids and the weather was very clear and dry. People spent a few quid and it all went with a bang.
So I am writing to thank the staff from Coyde for their event-saving contribution and everyone who came to make it all worthwhile.
