A district councillor is ‘raising the roof’ after a village hall got a much needed makeover.

Ugborough Village Hall recently received a new roof and the chairman of South Hams District Council, Cllr Tom Holway was there to complete the ‘topping out’.

Although Cllr Holway could not get onto the new roof, he was able to place the last piece on a lego version of the hall at a ceremony to thank those who helped raise the funds and supported the project.

The hall committee would like to thank those who helped and supported the project, in particular, National Lottery Awards for All, Ugborough Sustainable Saturdays, Village Pantomime, the parish council, SHDC, and “all other local groups that have contributed to the hall funds to support such work”.

The 1970s roof on the hall needed replacing due to leaks which cased water damage. Other parts of the refurbishment included replacement of roof tiles, felting and membrane, battens, lead work, dormer flat roof, fascias, soffits, rainwater goods, and Velux windows.

The rotted roof timbers were replaced and there was some upgrade to the existing roof insulation. The work was completed ahead of schedule by SMW Roofing Ltd and supported by local firms Tor Ecology and Croft Surveyors.
