SOUTH Brent will commemorate the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day this weekend.
There will be a two-minute silence at the Toll House from 3pm today to remember the anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe. Tomorrow the bell-ringers will ring out VE Day from 10.30am at St Petroc's Church.
There will then be a service for VE Day at St Petroc's Church from 9.45am on Sunday. The short service will be conducted by the Rev David Winnington-Ingram to remember VE Day and Victory over Japan Day. VJ Day, although commemorated on August 15, effectively ended the Second World War.
VE Day was the public holiday celebrated on May 8, 1945, to mark the acceptance of Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender of it's armed forces and the end of the war in Europe.
