Ivybridge Bowling Club

With Bere Alston unable to raise a team for the Monday evening fixture, the only match played this week was a Saturday League game against Devonport Park.

It was played at Ivybridge's home green on Bridge Park, under sunny skies with a gentle, cooling breeze.

Both teams were evenly matched in the first session, which Ivybridge just edged by three shots.

The home side stepped up a gear over the next eight ends and went into the tea break holding a 15-shot advantage.

The customary cream teas this week were supplied and catered by Tina Hill and Diane Bufton assisted by Lyn Hexter, all from the ladies' section of the club.

After the ladies had been thanked by both teams for another brilliant spread it was back to the green for the second half of the match.

The home side again were in the ascendancy and a further eight shots were gained by the end of session three.

Although the visitors put up a spirited fight in the final session, which they won 31-25, the final result was a comfortable victory for Ivybridge 128-111.

For the home side the top rink was skipped by Larry Ireland with Dave Moulder, Arthur Baxendale and Dave Taylor. They won 38-18.

Also winning were Peter Bray, Rob Woodcock and Paul Binyon, skipped by Stan Parsons, who finished the day 35-31.

Fred Hawkes, Brian Harman, Chris Bufton and skip Roland Lugger just edged it 28-27.

The only rink to lose was Mike Hexter, Frank Sanders and Tony Plant skipped by Eric Bennett. They went down 27-35.
