Ivybridge Bowling Club
With the wheels having come off for Ivybridge men in the previous week, they obviously must have found a new set for this week's games as they came away with two good wins.
The Evening League fixture on Thursday was at home on their Bridge Park green, where they welcomed Plymouth's Peverell Park.
On a dry but increasing chilly night, the home side got off to a blistering start and were 16 shots up after just five ends, but with the match reaching its conclusion Ivybridge held a tenuous one-shot lead with one end to play.
This last end went the way of Ivybridge when they picked up four shots giving them the win 76-71.
For Ivybridge there were two winning rinks. Paul Morgan, Brian Harman, Dave Bithell and skip Roland Lugger won 22-18 with Jack Bilby, John Chaplin, Larry Ireland and Eric Bennett (skip) victors 16-13.
Managing a 20-20 draw were Fred Hawkes, Rob Woodcock and Dave Taylor, skipped by Grenville Barnett.
The only losing rink, going down 18-20, were Peter Bray, Frank Sanders, Chris Bufton and skip Dave Crisp.
Ivybridge had their first home game of the Saturday League against Torpoint.
The weather held good for the afternoon and so did the Ivies fortunes.
They got off to the best possible start and were six shots up after the first session of eight ends.
This lead was further increased to a healthy 16 by the time the teams left the green for refreshments.
Once again the men are deeply indebted to the ladies' section of the club, who are providing and serving the cream teas for another season.
This week it was Muriel Jewers and Georgina Deans in charge of the catering and they were thanked by both team captains for the excellent spread.
Back on the green the home side's form continued with another shot going to Ivybridge at the end of 24 ends.
The final session was all Ivybridge, where they were to collect another 18 shots to give a final result of 124-87.
All four of the home side's rinks came out on top, with the best score going to the rink skipped by Stan Parsons with Chris Bufton, Paul Morgan and Paul Binyon. They strolled to victory by 38 shots to 29.
Jack Bilby, Frank Sanders, Larry Ireland and skip Eric Bennett were 31-25 winners, Sandy Robinson, Arthur Baxendale and Dave Taylor with skip Grenville Barnett won 27-22 and finally Peter Bray, Brian Harman, Dave Bithell and Roland Lugger (skip) completing the whitewash 28-21.
