Devon Cricket League 1st XI A division

Budleigh Salterton 97 all out,

Cornwood 98-4;

Budleigh (two points) lost to Cornwood (19) by six wickets

Cornwood first XI kept hot on the heels of A division leaders Brixham with a convincing victory against third in the table Budleigh Salterton.

Cornwood, who are just two points behind Brixham, now lead Budleigh by 29 points after a superb bowling display saw them dismiss the home side for 97.

Matt Butterworth was the star with the ball for Corns, taking 4-22 as Budleigh collapsed.

Faced with an unintimidating total, Cornwood lost four wickets in chasing it down, Jackson Thompson leading the way with 42, to take home a valuable 19 points.

Tomorrow sees the first XI take on basement boys Bideford at Oak Park and will be looking to ensure they gather the maximum points in their quest to bounce back up to the premier division.

Cornwood second XI also enjoyed a fine win against Budleigh's second team at Oak Park.

The Corns batted first and were dismissed for a perhaps below-par 152, but then bowled superbly to limit the visitors to 142 all out, with Andy Bees claiming figures of 4-29 to ensure Budleigh fell 10 runs short.

Cornwood picked up 18 points to leapfrog Exmouth and edge further away from the relegation zone.

Making it a hat-trick of victories for the Corns, their third XI also triumphed in a low-scoring affair when they travelled to Plymouth Civil Service and Roborough.

PCS batted first and totalled 110 all out, Goodliffe taking 3-26, with Cornwood chasing down the total for the loss of six wickets.

Stones' invaluable innings of 40 not out ensured Corns took the win and bagged 18 points.
