LOCAL sustainability group PL:21 Transition Town is organising an event to help locals use transport in a way that benefits themselves and the environment.

PL:21 has teamed up with Sustrans, the national charity that encourages people to get around on foot, by bike and on public transport, for the Sustainable Travel Fair at The Watermark in Ivybridge.

All are welcome and the fair takes place on Saturday, October 22 from 10am to 1pm.

The event will include information on local walking and cycling routes, bus and train services and even low emission vehicles.

Exhibitors include Great Western Railway, Stagecoach, Citybus, British Cycling, local outdoor and cycle shops and Dartmoor National Park, and Ocean BMW will be bringing an electric car along for people to look at and sit in.

The event will be attended by MP Gary Streeter at 11am with groups expected from Plymouth and South Brent by bike. There will also be an opportunity to get your bike looked over by a local shop.

Organiser Graham Wilson said: ’We are really looking forward to spreading the word about all the alternative ways to get around our lovely town. Some say healthy transport equates to healthy lives and Ivybridge has a growing network of cycle routes and public transport leading to Plymouth, local towns, Dartmoor and the coast.

’We also want to increase awareness of electric cars and are pleased to be supported by Ocean BMW.’

The event is being supported by South Hams councillor Cathy Cuthbert and is free to attend. So pay a visit to find out more about local sustainable travel options, and contribute your ideas to encourage more people to walk and cycle in the town.
