With passports at the ready Ivybridge crossed the border into Cornwall for their penultimate Saturday League fixture of the season.

High-flying Torpoint were the opponents and a win for them would guarantee their promotion to the first division.

The day was blessed by probably the best weather of the summer.

Proving their promotion credentials, it was the home team that got off to the better start and were 14 shots to the good at the end of the first session.

A further 15 went their way by the tea interval. After a welcome break for the traditional cream teas (a tradition that unfortunately seems to be in a terminal decline around the clubs), back on the green it was much of the same over the final two sessions, with Torpoint running out deserved winners 142-94.

For Ivybridge there was only one rink that ended with a winning score. Stan Parsons (skip), assisted by Dave Bithell, Brian Harman and Roland Lugger won 24-22.

Dave Moulder, Paul Morgan and John Cann skipped by Ken Kempthorne lost 26-33, but they did manage the rare event of a ‘hot shot’ on the last end before tea, when they picked up a full house of eight shots. They went down 26-33.

Tony Plant, Arthur Baxendale, Dave Taylor and Grenville Barnett (skip) lost 25-45 and completing the scores Jack Bilby, Frank Sanders and Larry Ireland skipped by Eric Bennett were beaten 19-42.
